how to wear a t-shirt when you're tired of wearing t-shirts

I think we could all admit that at the end of the day when it comes to fashion, most of the time we want to put on the easiest outfit possible. But when you're looking around in your closet, it feels like you're looking the same thing from day to day. You don't necessarily always need new pieces, you just need to find new ways to wear the stuff you already have.

Today we're gonna talk about your basic t-shirt. A simple piece that you can buy from literally anywhere. Most of mine are thrifted for like less than $7, but places like Urban Outfitters sell vintage tees for $50+ dollars, and we actually buy them (which is gross, if I may add). But they're actually are super versatile, aside form being extremely comfortable. And the best part about them is that everyone has one! When you have no more inspiration for your outfit, just dig in your t-shirt drawer, or steal your dad or boyfriend's, and style it in one of these 5 ways.

Little Top, Big Pants

We all own a cropped t-shirt, and if not it's super easy to crop one at home with pair of scissors and a ruler, or just wear a bra underneath and tuck it under all the way around (if cutting is too permanent for you). Creating some dimension with your outfit by wearing a fitted or cropped tee with a baggy, oversized pair of bottoms is so simple. I prefer a fitted, baby tee with a pair of big cargo pants with non-elastic bottoms. Throw on a fitted and some dunks and you're good to go.

A Flowy Mini or Maxi Skirt

Switch the vibe up a little bit??? Taking a masculine piece like a big t-shirt, and adding a more feminine piece to it, like a flowy mini or maxi skirt, is one of my favorite things to do. They balance each other out in a beautiful way. Play with the texture of the skirt; try silk, or ribbed, or even try a fitted one with a slit. A pair of Doc Marten's or platform Converse will tie it all together, really nicely. *by using the words masculine & feminine I am speaking of the traditional silhouette of the garment because as we know, clothes have no gender*

Denim on Denim, Please!

This is as good as it gets! Let the denim do the talking here. Use a plain white or black tee as a base for an oversized denim on denim look. You can either match your pieces of denim exactly (same wash & color) or switch it up and mix-match light denim on the top and medium-wash denim on the bottom. Personally I love mixing washes, I think it adds dimension and when it's done right. With a pair of gold hoops, and a shoulder bag added, you are gonna look so put together & really give that "model off-duty" aesthetic we all know and love.

Turtleneck + Tee = A Look

This is definitely one of our fall/winter hacks, but still good to hold onto. We talked about layering on top of a tee earlier, but yes, you can layer underneath as well! Not only will it keep you warm, if it's a little chilly outside, but it will give your outfit a completely different look. Using a printed turtleneck underneath a graphic shirt is a great way to do it, but you can also use a solid-colored turtleneck as well. Pair with black denim and some booties!

Suit Up

Blazers are back and they're here to stay. Personally, I love stealing a blazer out of my dad's closet and I feel no shame. Throw that t-shirt on with an oversized blazer, and a pair of cargo bottoms. I love to pair this look with my Jordan 4s. Take a full suit (blazer and bottoms) and put a cropped-tee underneath. It's up to you whether to pair it with a simple mule or a sneaker. A blazer is a perfect way to layer up for windier days, or when it's hot OUTSIDE, but you know it's gonna be cold inside. They're super easy to take from daytime to nighttime too. *chefs kiss*
