"Style is a way of saying who you are, without having to speak" - Rachel Zoe
It's 7:30 AM and you rolled around in bed for 25 minutes procrastinating your impending doom of starting your day. Your 8 AM is a 15 minute walk from your dorm. BUT alas, you can't just wear your pajamas today cause you have Psychology this morning...and that cute Criminology Major from Chicago sits next to you; so you HAVE to look halfway decent. What to do, what to do.
We've all been there sis. The amount of times that I've actually rolled into my 8 AM in the gigantic t-shirt I slept in overnight, is a bit ridiculous...but there's nothing wrong with it. Let's say you wanna actually try. Here are 5 quick and easy outfit ideas for those days you gotta be up and out the door, but still gotta serve.
1. Jeans and a Tee...to the T
- The simple jeans and a tee look is nothing new ladies and gentlemen, but you can either wear jeans and a tee, or you can let it wear you. Switching out a pair of basic straight leg/skinny jeans for a pair of distressed, boyfriend jeans will do half the work for you. Even if you aren't into the baggy look, just finding a distressed pair will (strangely enough) make it look like you tried more. Unless you've been living under a rock you know mom jeans are back and better than ever. Finding yourself a great pair of mom jeans that you can take from the classroom to the club is a great start. PrettyLittleThing is a super inexpensive fast fashion brand that has some amazing mom jeans, check them out.
Now to pair with a tee! Oversized is in! The bigger the better applies in more areas than one. Slapping on a baggy, graphic, vintage-esq shirt over a pair of mom jeans will make it look like this was one of those outfits you set on your bed the night before, versus what you actually did...pulling the shirt with least amount of stains on it from your dirty clothes hamper. If you aren't into the baggy look, no worries sis. Tucking a fitted tee into the jeans and cinching your waist with a belt is an even better way to spice a simple outfit up. For shoes, sneakers are the go-to. A simple all white shoe like an Air Force or an All-Star, OR a bright colored sneaker to add a pop of color. Tie it all off with some hoops and shades and we've got a look, boys and girls!
2. Biker Shorts FTW!
- Biker shorts are probably one of the most versatile pieces in your closet and you probably didn't even know it. It's leggings...but a short...heaven. Just heavenly. And they make the booty pop so you really can't lose here. Pairing a pair of biker shorts with a tube top instead of a plain tee can do a lot for an outfit. Matching sets are incredible ways to be lazy and still look good, so even if they didn't come together, if the tube top and shorts match, it still works. If you do want to pair with a t shirt, experiment with tying the shirt different ways to create dimension (front, back, etc.) The weather right now is a little unpredictable, so a cute pair of slides or sneakers will tie it together with simplicity.
Layering an oversized jacket on top helps to add even more dimension to an outfit. You can wear the jacket OR simply tie a jacket or a flannel around your waist. A camo jacket can do so much for a plain outfit. Oversized distressed denim jackets are my personal favorite. Topping it all off with an oversized pair of shades.
3. Sweats...Yes PLEASE!
- Yes, you have every right to be celebrating right now. It is socially acceptable to wear sweats just about anywhere now...what a time to be alive. Everybody has a pair, or if you don't I promise your brother or significant other has a pair you can steal. BORROW. I mean borrow. Sweats are literally a blanket that you can wear, and making them look "put together" is super easy. Even if you didn't buy them as a pair, if they're the same color, the sweatsuit look is efficient and effective. To create some dimension, you can wear a really oversized sweatshirt and tuck the front center under your the gore of your bra, to create a "high low" effect.
If it's a little on the warmer side, a sports bra with a lightweight, cropped denim jacket is an awesome combo too. Or you can replace the sports bra with a t-shirt and french tuck it into the sweats. Versatility is the name of the game. Lack of accessorizing when wearing sweats can make the look turn into a groutfit super quick. It's as simple as some thick gold hoops and a watch and BOOM, you got it.
4. Basketball/Soccer/Sweat Shorts...yes, I said it.
- Ahhh, the sports short. My personal favorite. With street style as prevalent as it is, so many trends from the 80s & 90s are coming back, and this happens to be one of them. Girls in basketball shorts >>> It's 2019, and you can dress up a pair of basketball shorts, who woulda thought?! The key is balancing out the frumpyness of the shorts with something a bit more shapely on top. As pictured, I paired a vintage pair of University of Kentucky practice shorts, with a one-shoulder cropped top. Pairing masculine and feminine pieces together is a major key to success.
Again with the accessories, hoops are a go to, but layer your hoops too! If you have more than one piercing hole, layer the hoops from largest to smallest in each. It takes a look from 0-100, I promise. Pair with some Jordan 1s or my favorites, Air Forces, and you're out the door.
5. Leggings: Back to the Basics
- Good ole' faithful! We love a good pair of leggings, don't we?! Comfy and makes the booty look good; can't ask for much more. Leggings are a staple in everyone's wardrobe. They set a solid foundation to any outfit, and allow for other pieces to standout. I love a good leggings + crew socks + oversized tee combo. But also throwing on a cropped sweatshirt, like I did above, is a great way to layer if it's a bit chilly.
Again, accessorizing with a bandana, headscarf, or baseball cap are great ways to do it. Plus, you don't have to do your hair...bonus points. You already know what I'm gonna say next; HOOPS HOOPS HOOPS! Hoops and a headscarf is a great combo and adds an extra vibe to the fit, I assure you.
There you have it! Getting up and putting a quick look together is as easy as 1, 2, 3...4......5 (corny, I know, but still so funny). There's 5 super simple outfits; one for each day of the week! Give it a try, and watch how much better you feel throughout the day, putting a little more effort into your look. Until next time.
