body positive reminders everyone should hear

Updated: May 16, 2022

“Don’t surrender all your joy for an idea you used to have about yourself that isn’t true anymore.” ― Cheryl Strayed

Your body & your health should be one of your top priorities. But whether it's how much you work out or what you're eating, we can all get a little obsessive at times. In the age of social media, we are constantly thrown images of what the "perfect body" is and should be. Personally, I find myself comparing WAY more than I should. Here are a few reminders of what is really important when it comes to taking care of yourself

Health and Size are NOT Directly Related

- Throw that scale away. I assure you, the size of someone's clothes is in NO WAY directly related to how healthy or unhealthy they are. Each person's definition of "healthy" is not the same and comparing yourself does nothing but set you up for trying to reach either unrealistic or unhealthy expectations. The important thing is that YOU are comfortable with YOU. Screw what society or anyone else has to say. You know your body better than anyone else.

Listen to You Body

- Take the time to know your body. Focus on being in tune with your body; listen to what your body is trying to tell you. If you're tired: sleep. If you're hungry: eat. Knowing the difference between a late night craving and when your body needs real fuel is super important! The motto is .... everything in moderation.

You're Probably Harder on Your Self-Image Than You Should Be

- No one is staring at that pimple on your chin while you're talking, no one noticed the cellulite on your thigh, and no one can tell that you're a little bloated. We can be so mean and nit-picky with ourselves, and honestly, until you say it out loud, most of the time no one noticed your left eye is smaller than your right eye. You are human. You are beautiful. And you are perfectly-imperfect.

If You Like it, That's All That Matters

- When someone makes you feel negatively about your body, ranging from a a slick comment or a pattern of subtle abuse, always remember one thing : PROJECTION. Misery loves company & people who are unhappy with themselves, or their world can try to bring your down with them. Don't let anyone have the power over you to make you feel badly about something you are so comfortable in.

You are incredible and the universe put you here for a reason. Learning to navigate your body can be hard and take time along with balancing work, routine, relationships, and other things that are all factors into how our bodies feel! Remember to be patient and kind with yourself and to treat your body like the amazing thing that it is. You're doing great, sweetie.
