"Fashion is very important. It is life-enhancing and, like everything that gives pleasure, it is worth doing well.” Vivienne Westwood
The temperature has dropped...significantly. We prayed for fall weather, because it was still hot in September, and then BOOM, winter said it was her turn. Sometimes I find it hard not to dress like a little boy every day during the winter months, because. . . I just want to be warm. But there are ways to make your wintertime fits look incredible and still stay warm.
Trench coats are a staple in anyone's wardrobe; they're a step up from the clunky puffer coats we all hated to wear when we were younger, that are back in style now. Trenches do an amazing job of instantly dressing up any outfit. Coming back to the runways in Fall 2019 shows, the versatility of a trench was defined in major ways. We see them being worn with everything from sweatsuits to club dresses. This winter, try layering with a trench and see how it levels up your fit. It's always good to keep one neutral trench ready at all times, but try adding one that is a bold color (red, yellow or blue) and one that is patterned (plaid or gingham).
It's no secret that blazers have made a graceful comeback to the runways and into the street style sector. They aren't just for the boardroom anymore. Being one of my favorite and most versatile pieces in my closet, blazers can be added atop almost any article of clothing to layer and add dimension. For the winter, do yourself a favor, and pick up an oversized blazer. You can add it on top of a sweatsuit for a street-style look, or on top of a chunky turtleneck sweater for a more casual, yet put-together ensemble.
Most of the time when you think of a sweatshirt you think of layering on top of them. But this winter we've seen people switching it up and layering underneath. And the best part about it is that we all have one! They're comfy too so . . . bonus points. As we see pictured above, a turtleneck can add dimension to any outfit but also a simple white collared shirt will do the job too. On the bottom, a solid pair of mom jeans or a fun oversized pair of plaid or cargo pants will tie it all together effortlessly.
Lumberjacks beware, we're coming for ya. They're super warm and the plaid pattern makes it very easy to style. You can pair a flannel with just about anything: sweats, jeans, or a pair of oversized linen pants. Using neutral colors with a flannel allows for it to be the statement piece of your outfit. Let the pattern do the talking! Mix it up and layer it with a button-up underneath, then tuck into a pair of light-wash mom jeans.
