"Style is something each of us already has, all we need to do is find it." —Diane von Furstenberg
2019 was full of trends, and since fashion is really just a never-ending cycle, we saw a lot of old fads coming back into style. They came, they saw, and they conquered...but honestly, new year, new trends. Some were better than others, and we will definitely bring some of the 2019 trends into 2020 with us. But here are the trends we're leaving in 2019.
*disclaimer - these trends are based on trend forecasting done by myself, and research of runway shows. Please by all means still wear these things (I probably will, if we're being honest). But these are trends I believe are being left off the runways and replaced in the upcoming year. Enjoy*
The Fitted Turtleneck
Ahh yes, a man's best friend. The turtleneck. I assure you, it was a trend we all enjoyed, especially if there were some muscles popping out of the sleeves, but it has run its course and they are out. The turtleneck is a lazy man's favorite go-to. Now, I still love to layer a turtleneck under a crewneck or a short sleeve tee, but a plain turtleneck as a top has got to go. Adiós.
Snakeskin
I know girl, I know. It pains me to say it, but snakeskin was completely overdone this year. We started out strong but ended in neon green, snakeskin wrestling suits and I ju...I have no words. Prints are still in, but we're straying away from snakeskin and moving on to different animals ladies, no worries.
The Men's Skinny Jean
Seriously, don't worry they'll probably be back in style in 2 years, but for now, you can tuck them in the back of your closet. They've been a staple for such a long time because I mean...how can you replace a classic jean? But oversized jeans aren't just for girls now. Boys let's get into it.
Neon
The late 2000s trend came back full throttle this year. Everything was neon: hair, biker shorts, heels, etc. We were matching green neon with orange neon and so on and so forth. It was a look and honestly, I still like it, but for 2020 we're gonna dial back on it just a tad.
The Classic Jordan 1
Now, THIS might be the most painful one right here. I am actually crying as I'm writing this. The Jordan 1 will forever be a classic shoe, it's my favorite shoe of all time for goodness sake. They can't be replaced. This year, 1's were definitely the shoe of the year, girls and guys wore them as much as possible. It's time we put them on the bench for a second and give some other sneakers a chance though. *cries incessantly*
Fanny Packs
This one hits kinda hard too. Fanny packs made a beautiful comeback for the ladies in 2018 and stuck around for 2019, but 2020 said no more. They're super useful and handy and keep your hands free, we love them. In the upcoming year, we're seeing a lot of different sized and shaped bags taking over & I'm here for it.
Bulletproof Vests
I was on the vest wave myself, as the utilitarian style has come back into play this past year. But the runways are slowly stepping away from bulletproof vests. Utility vests have seemed to stay relevant but it's time to say bye-bye to this police-esq fashion statement.
Cropped Puffers
Now we all hated wearing coats when we were younger but rushed to the stores and online to find as many cropped puffers as possible from 2018-2019. Super versatile, everyday pieces, puffers were a staple in all of our wardrobes. But alas, we're saying goodbye to the cropped puffer. Not to worry, puffers are still gonna be in stores, but designers have moved towards full-length puffer coats for the upcoming year.
The "Murse"
Now this one might be a tad bit biased...but the man purse or "murse" has got to go; or at least the crossbody ones. I hated these, and it's a trend I think has been overdone. For the 2020 runways, we still have man purses, but they're playing around with the shape and size, as well. We're seeing more duffles and backpacks making headways into the street style sector. Now THAT, I can get into.
Last but not least, Latex
Now, Kylie Jenner kinda made this pop at the beginning of the year, and I honestly don't think we will do away with latex until mid-2020. Either way, it's gonna be a thing of the past in a short amount of time. Latex made sure we were snatched, and we will forever be grateful for that. But 2020 is bringing some new textures and fabrics to the game and IDK about you...but I'm ready to see what's next.
